As much as I'd like to start my 2009 mix all over with all Spanish music (thanks to this) I've got to move on with life, so here goes. Download the MMIX Tape here, and while it's coming down the pipe (at 132 MB it may take a short while) grab a cup of tea. A self-dissociating imaginary interview and tracklist after the jump:
What's with the title? Do you have a stutter?
I had one as a child, but I got over it. MMIX are the Roman numerals for 2009.
Oh! I see what you did there. Did you make that cover?
Afraid not. I nicked it from a T-shirt design I fancied then faffed about in Photoshop.
There's a summery beach-type vibe going on in a lot of the tunes here.
Funny you should say that. I spent a lot of time at the beach this year.
Why?
What else are you supposed to do in L.A. when it's so hot you can't think, you have no air conditioner, and you have a, shall we say, irregular work schedule?
I see. Is this your idea of the best music of 2009?
No. There are rather a lot of obviously awesome songs by people like Sweet Trip or Fever Ray or St. Vincent or Lady Gaga or whoever missing. It is what it is. This thing is supposed to be good though, so if you don't like it there's something wrong with you.
All right then!

very cool mix, altho i have to say i don't care for the butcher boy track at all. the singer's diction reminded me too much of stuart murdoch, and i haven't been able to listen to b&s lately for some reason. so i became annoyed and skipped ahead after about half of the track.
i also liked your use of roman numerals, and am proud to say that i noticed it right off the bat.
Glad you're digging it, though sorry the Butcher Boy isn't up your street. Still 22 out of 23 is not a bad hit/miss ratio :) Speaking of Murdoch, God Help The Girl have kind of put a stain on the B&S catalogue... even extending to other Glasgow bands. I really wish he hadn't done that. Yuck.
When is your mix dropping?
God Help The Girl sucked, plain and simple. hopefully i'll have a mix up soon, it's been so stoopid busy lately.
i'm totally gonna hijack that Summer Camp track for my mix. it's so adorable.
